Visit to the Doué-La-Fontaine Zoo

The Doué-la-Fontaine Zoo: an Oasis of biodiversity and conservation

Located in the Anjou region, in the heart of the Loire Valley, the Doué-la-Fontaine Zoo, founded in 1961, is nestled in an old falun quarry, a shell rock unique to the region, which gives the site a natural beauty and a special atmosphere.

The Doué-la-Fontaine Zoo is the only troglodyte zoo in the world and covers 17 ha.

Impressive animal diversity

With more than 1900 animals of 130 different species, the zoo has an incredible diversity of world fauna. It was voted 2nd best zoo in Europe in 2020.

Ecological and Educational Initiatives

Beyond its role as a sanctuary for animals, the zoo makes it a point of honor to raise public awareness of the protection of biodiversity. Educational programs are offered to schools and families, making it possible to discover the challenges of ecosystem conservation and protection.

In addition, the zoo is committed to a global ecological approach, aimed at minimizing its environmental impact through sustainable practices such as recycling, water management and the use of renewable energy sources.
