Talmont-sur-Gironde, a medieval jewel perched on a cliff

Perched on a cliff overlooking the Gironde estuary, Talmont-sur-Gironde is a small village in Charente-Maritime that seems frozen in time. It is classified among the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", Talmont-sur-Gironde is a must-see destination for those who seek to discover the authentic charm and rich history of the region. A medieval village by the water

Talmont-sur-Gironde was initially designed at the time as a defensive place because of its strategic position on the estuary.

Les Carrelets: a symbol of the region

Along the estuary, you will find the famous "carrelets", these small fishermen's cabins on stilts equipped with large square nets. These typical facilities of the Charente-Maritime region are still used today for fish fishing and are a real attraction for visitors, testifying to the intimate relationship between the village and the sea.

Walk in the heart of Talmont

The cobbled streets reveal every corner part of the small heritage of the village, Saintongeais houses with colored shutters that have become art craft workshops and shops for the pleasure of visitors: paintings, glassware, leather, jewelry, clothing. The small port of Talmont experienced its period of activity at the time of sturgeon fishing and caviar production, during the first half of the 20th century. From the port, we see the Caillaud cliff lined with tiles and housing the vineyards of Talmont.

The Church of Sainte-Radegonde: a pearl of Romanesque art

The jewel of Talmont-sur-Gironde is undoubtedly the Sainte-Radegonde church, a masterpiece of 12th century Romanesque art. Located at the end of the village, this church majestically overlooks the Gironde estuary, offering a spectacular panorama of the sparkling waters and surrounding cliffs.

Talmont-sur-Gironde is an architectural treasure, but also a place where nature plays a central role.
