Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, halfway between Les Eyzies and Lascaux

Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère is a pretty picturesque village classified in the list of the "most beautiful villages in France".

This charming village is guarded by its castles - the Manoir de la salle, but also: the Château de Clérans, as well as the Château de Chabans, flagship of the Côte de Jor - the village prides itself on hosting, in the beautiful Romanesque church of the 12th century, the Musical Festival of Périgord Noir.

  • Find the Sainte-Léonce church: a 12th century Romanesque church, beautifully preserved, it dominates the village. You can observe beautiful ancient frescoes with sober architecture that make it a place of peace and contemplation.

  • Gallo-Roman ruins: Near the village, discover the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa, which takes us back to Roman times.

  • Walk along the banks of the Vézère: Stroll along the banks of the Vézère, where you can admire the green landscapes and cliffs overlooking the river. It is a perfect place for a relaxing walk or a family picnic.

  • Cave - Le Conquil: In the Le Conquil cave you will find the troglodyte habitats dug into the cliff along the Vézère. A beautiful instructive walk in a natural and wild setting.

Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère is many activities for visitors. You can take part in a canoe excursion on the Vézère to discover the landscapes from the water, or explore the hiking trails that wind around the village. Prehistory lovers will appreciate the proximity of the famous Lascaux caves and the National Museum of Prehistory in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac.

About 20 km away, this village is ranked among the most beautiful villages in France. It is dominated by an impressive 12th century fortified abbey.
