La Maison Pierre Frey
Maison Pierre Frey is famous throughout France for its high quality interior-design products such as wallpaper, upholstery, rugs, carpets and high-end furniture.
A family business
The business was founded in 1935 by Pierre Frey. It has remained a family business and is now managed by Patrick Frey and his three sons Pierre, Vincent and Mathieu.
I was lucky, said Patrick Frey. My parents separated when I was young and my mother took me all over Europe, explaining different styles to me, accompanying me to all the museums, and I loved it. Then my father, the founder of the company, asked me to work with him. I didn't know him very well and he sent me to America for experience. At age 22, I joined the company. He said to me, 'Now design a fabric pattern, or leave' It was rough. I drew about 20 of them - striped canvases hoping he might at least like one. I took them to him, shaking a little. He looked at them and said, 'Okay, we're going to make them all'.
An ever more inspiring choice
In the 1990s, La Maison Pierre Frey bought out the Braquenié, Boussac, Fadini Borghi and Le Manach companies.
Now its collections offer a very wide choice with classical, baroque and even ethnic designs.
La Maison sometimes asks artists to sign some compositions. This was the case for Louise Bourgouin, for example, a graduate of Fine Arts who produced a composition on fabrics, wallpaper, rugs and plates and ceramic dish painted by hand a few years ago.
