Holidays in the Périgord Noir
The Dordogne, also called the Périgord Noir, is an appellation of the historical region but also of the current department and the river which crosses the department and which gives its name to the Dordogne Valley.
The Dordogne is very popular with tourists with the atmosphere that emerges from this region.
There are 3 different colours referring to the Périgord, and referring to 4 tourist destinations inside Périgord:
Le Périgord Vert: to the North with meadows and the Périgord-Limousin regional natural park.
The Périgord Noir: to the South East, around Sarlat.
Le Périgord Pourpre: South of the Dordogne, around Bergerac with its vineyards and purple foliage.
Sarlat-la-Canéda, a city rich in history
The cobbled streets of Sarlat-la-Canéda, a charming city in France that can be visited on foot. The monastery built in the 9th century makes this place rich in history. Its religious activity allows it to reach dimensions comparable to Périgueux or Bergerac in the 12th century.
An exceptional heritage that can be visited all year round, with guided tours offered by the Sarlat Tourist Office. You can also enjoy its gastronomy and cultural festivities. Indeed, you can come and attend the Theater Games Festival in July and August, the Sarlat Film Festival in November, the Painting exhibition from June to September and other activities/shows at the Cultural Congress Center.
