For any party celebration - hire your very own photo booth !
The first photo booth
A first edition of the photo booth was invented in 1888 in Baltimore by William Pope and Edward Poole. Then in 1889 a French inventor Erneste Théophile Enjalbert presented his version of the photo booth at the Universal Exhibition. But it was in 1925 that Anatil Josepho created the 'Photomaton', the photo booth as we know it today. Over the years, the photo booth has become a source of inspiration for artists; in 1929, André Breton, Paul Eluard, Salvador Dali, Marx Ersnt, Louis Aragon and other surrealists produced a photomontage "I do not see the woman hidden in the forest", their faces, looking inwards, frame a drawing by Magritte.
In 1950 Richard Avedon used a photo booth to take pictures of celebrities for Esquire magazine including Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe.
The cinema also pays homage to the photo booth in Mission Impossible and The Umbrella Courtyard. In the film Amelie Poulian, it is the writer and photographer Michel Folco who inspired the character of Nino played by Mathieu Kassovitz. Every day, he walked through the photo booths at Lyon and Austerlitz stations and picked up forgotten or damaged photos.
