We are all born with some form of bud in ourselves, which may or may not hatch
His journey
At the age of 9, Hugo Marchand wanted to become a dancer and then entered the Nantes Conservatory. Ultra perfectionist, from an early age, Hugo trains ardently.
At the age of 14, he joined the prestigious ballet school of the Opéra de Paris.
At 20, he was promoted Coryphée and Subject the following year.
At 22, he became Premier Dancer.
In 2017, at the age of 24, he was named Principal Dancer.
Manon's story
In 2015, Hugo Marchand was chosen to play in Histoire de Manon, a ballet by choreographer Kennet MacMillan with Dorothée Gilbert, principal dancer.
For the dancer, it will be ecstasy. Osmosis is perfect with its partner.
Hugo Marchand confides that this is not always the case.
He will play Solor in La Bayadère, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Oberon in Midsummer Night's Dream among others.
Hugo Marchand also stands out in the contemporary repertoire and works with Benjamin Millepied or Crystal Pite.
Dancer
Writing such a young autobiography was not his own initiative but that of a publishing house.
I was 23 when Éditions Arthaud called me to offer me this project. I didn't feel legitimate to do a dance book, but I liked the idea of ââtelling what it means to start a profession so young and live it. I wrote to share the emotional and intellectual journey of this learning. It took me over three years to write Danser. This book was therapeutic. I plunged back into memories, challenges, years as hard as they were beautiful…, I cried a lot, laughed, relived very strong emotions.
