Bastille Day - July 14th
July 14 has become a national holiday in France as well as a public holiday. It was established to commemorate the storming of the Bastille on July 14th, 1789, symbol of the end of absolute monarchy. It is the popular revolt that has had the greatest impact in the history of France.
July 14th gives rise to a military parade on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, at 10 am.
Fireworks
France celebrates this holiday with fireworks in the largest cities of France.
These pyrotechnic "sound and light" shows is a tradition that attracts a large number of people to each event.
Sometimes on July 13, popular balls are organized in different cities of France, in particular organized by the firefighters; 'Les Pompiers'.
