Customer Reviews [32]

Torl and Liz (September - October 2024)
We have travelled all our lives and recently decided to change our style. Instead of hiking or always-on-the-move vacations, we thought we would try renting a home to use a base. We couldn't be happier with our decision, but much of the credit belongs to this wonderful villa and Philippe, truly a host extraordinaire. Our only fear is that the bar has been set so high now that future rentals will suffer in comparison. Maureilhan, although not much in itself, is perfectly located for trips in the area, whether to Sète, Béziers, Roquebrun, Sérignan or Montpellier.
One final note: although we rented the villa for ourselves, we had three sets of friends drop by for a few days each. With its separate quarters, the villa is perfect for two or three couples. The dinners provided by Philippe at Pour Pas were highlights. So thank you, Philippe. We couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more.

Tresnor family - September 2024
We have been renting villas in the south of France for over 20 years and we just say that owner of Maison des Communes has been the best host we have ever had. From the very generous welcoming gifts to the twice weekly breakfast deliveries to the excellent meal in Pourquoi Pas, he could not have done any more for us. Masion is ideally located, has a lovely pool and sturdy bikes. We had great fun cycling through the vineyards to Montady, capestang, Cazouls and also along the Canal du Midi. A great location for a group of friends on an extended holiday. Merci beaucoup.

Margaret, Tom and Family - September 2024
We had the best time. A beautiful villa and pool with access to a good range of restaurants/pubs. Thank you so much for your generous deliveries of breakfast and for a super meal at Restaurant 781. We spent most of the holiday relaxing by the pool. Had a couple of visits to the locks (Canal du Midi). Very beautiful and the bus into Béziers was fun. Our two-year-old grandson wanted to stay in our holiday house and told me he didn't want to go back to Orpington! I'd quite like to stay here too.

Julie, Jerry, Sarah, Charles. James, Becky, George and Isaac - August 2024
Thank you for your hospitality. We really appreciated the breakfast items and the wine and cheese. The meal at Le Pourquoi Pas was amazing although we had a bit of an adventure finding it! Lovely weather in the first half of the week but a shame we had wind and rain in the last few days. Good meal at Pizzeria La Cremade in Beziers Villeneuvre - next to a lock on the Canal du Midi. Worth visiting the Nine Locks as well. Enjoyed the beach at Serignan. Merci Beaucoup.
Thank you for petit velo.

Thank you so much! We have had the best week. The villa is fabulous. The location fab too. It is great to have the bikes. We really appreciated the wonderful fresh breakfasts. Thanks also for the recommended advice for places to visit: Bize-Minervois, Bagès, Sète and Carcassonne. We visited them all. they were amazing. Dinner at the Pourquoi Pas? was magical. a perfect venue to celebrate our25th anniversary. Thank you! You the very best hosts.

What a wonderful week! Thank you so much. The dinner was incredible. It was our wedding anniversary - twenty-five years - it was a very special evening. Thank you.

Emma, Jay, Sam, Jaya, Cal and Lily (+dog!) - August 2024
Enjoyed a very relaxing family(plus dog) holiday at the villa.
Philippe is a fabulous host, nothing is too much trouble. The additional touches such as the breakfast deliveries and the restaurant meal were wonderful.
The weather didn't disappoint. (38°C), so the pool was much needed.
Béziers and Sète are well worth a visit for the views and the food.
All in all, just what we needed.

Patrick, Richard and family - July 2024
Merci pour une quinzaine fantastique !
It was a wonderful place to spend a special birthday celebration with friends and family. The house was beautiful and we enjoyed the luxurious feel and the tasteful decor. The extra touches were much appreciated - from the breakfast deliveries and amazing meal and setting at Le Pourquoi Pas. We also enjoyed the visit to the cave at Saint-Chinian. We enjoyed the meal at the family run restaurant La Tournelle, a friendly service and very reasonable prices. For another gourmet lunch with an impressive view we enjoyed the Tour at Monterey. Good value set lunch. Thank you for everything.

Mary, Derek, Eva and James - July 2024
What a lovely week spent at this incredible villa. Philippe has been the most amazing and kind host. Nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for everything. The meal at Le Pourquoi Pas was outstanding! A lovely part of France to explore. We went to Béziers, Carcassonne, Vendres and Capestang. All lovely. The bikes were perfect for exploring the local area too. Thank you so much! We hope to come back.

A lovely and relaxing two weeks at the most beautiful villa! An amazing spacious villa that has been perfect for our family with plenty of space for us all. We absolutely loved the swimming pool and were in it everyday! Our holiday has made even more special by our attentive host Philippe. Philippe made us feel very welcome with some lovely wines and bread, spoilt with breakfast pastries and enjoyed a a delicious meal at Le Pourquoi Pas. The location was brilliant and we enjoyed talking to the bakery daily and enjoyed days out in nearby villages. Though most of the time we were just enjoying the villa! As cat lovers we adored the cats that we would see through the gardens and provided them with water in the hot days and some treats! Thank you so much for the most enjoyable holiday!

Colin, Anna, Rosie, Owen, Dan and Sophie - June 2024
An amazing week spent with family celebrating a 50th birthday location was perfect, quiet but close to amenities such as a lovely bakery and shops. The property has everything: plenty of space to relax but also plenty of space to socialise and mingle. Philippe was an amazing host, providing an introduction to the property and location, bringing pastries twice during our stay and proving a complementary wine tour of Saint-Chinian and evening meal at Le Pourquoi Pas (which was to die for food and location). Highly recommend during your stay to take a boat tour down the Canal du Midi from Colombiers and kayaking down the river Orb from Roquebun. Thank you for your hospitality.

Debbie, Chris, Jay, Jenny, Jenna and Andrew
Our week at Maison des Communes has been the most perfect way to celebrate 3 very important birthdays. Two 60th and one 40th. We have enjoyed every moment and couldn't have wished for a better location, or host to make this stay as special as possible. As a group of six adults (three couples) it was great to each have our own space with the villa, but also lovely communal areas to have our meals and relax together. Everything about the villa has been ideal from the pool, bikes and comfortable bedroom to the spacious sprawling grounds. the icing on the cake has been Philippe. What a gracious host bringing fresh pastries, leaving welcome gifts and even arranging a beautiful meal at a local restaurant. Thanks so much. we will be back.

Burchell (UK)
Thank you for much, Philippe and Federica, for being so welcoming, generous and accommodating to our family during our stay at your lovely villa. From fresh pastries in the morning to a delicious meal at "Le Pourquoi Pas", you have gone above and beyond - and that, combined with the comforts and surroundings of the villa, is what has made this holiday so special.
We all loved the comfort of the beds and quality of the linen, the faultless hot water supply and how clean the pool was. This villa really works, allowing us to have a stress-free holiday! So many happy memories made.
We hope to be back with a new arrival in tow - but for now, au revoir and merci beaucoup.

Anthony Peregrine (France)
Back home, I simply wanted to thank you very much for the exceptional welcome you gave us during our long weekend in Maureilhan. As we told you this morning, we had a great time at Maison des Communes – and we greatly appreciated your extraordinary generosity. With meals at the restaurant, cheese platter, wine and pastries, it was close to incredible. Certainly, we have never before benefited from such generosity when renting in France, in the UK or elsewhere.

And as you well know, your home is just as remarkable, with a mix of styles and moods that make it as interesting as it is luxurious and welcoming. We really didn't want to leave this morning...

So a big thank you once again and hopefully see you soon.

It has been 6 years of trying to get to stay here but eventually we did it and it was worth the wait.
The owners were so kind and helpful. Providing super cheeses, wine, early morning deliveries and a lovely meal out. And all of that before even mentioning the beautiful house :)
Everything was amazing except for the canicule, 42°C (phew!) but the pool saved us, it was amazing also.
Many thanks for a load of super memories.

Many thanks for a marvellous and very relaxing holiday in your beautiful house. Everything was great, especially the early morning bread deliveries and the meal at Le Pourquoi Pas - a real treat! We will certainly be booking to return to Maison des Communes in the future. Thank you!

We have stayed here three weeks. For the first week our family joined us our three sons and partners. This house is full of beautiful objects and we have loved being in it. We have enjoyed the lovely gifts of pastries and bread brought by Phillip. Thank you for those and also the amazing meal that included a cake for my 70th birthday. We have been to the walled city of Carcassonne - well worth a visit. We have been to the beach and our here has been lovely. We are sad to leave and will miss the bird song. I am afraid the cat was not welcomed by our two Pugs and was chased away. The wine tasting at Saint-Chinian was amazing. We bought bottles of wine with amazing art labels as the cave was decorated with such great art-work. So worth the visit. Thank you for the taster wine and for the introduction.

This is a fabulous villa with wonderful, spacious and different spaces and areas to relax, perfect for big or family groups - the pool is wonderful. Everything has been thought of and the availability of bikes for all ages is excellent, especially when you’re so close to the canal du midi. The owners are very attentive and friendly and everything from the generous arrival treats, to the fabulous meal out (thank you!) to the morning pastries and bread is A1 and the top tips on wine and day trips is provided readily and all great suggestions. A lovely place and definitely somewhere you’ll want to return to.

We had a wonderful week staying at Maison des Communes. We were made to feel very welcome and our hosts couldn't do enough to help us. Frederica even drove me to the supermarket when we arrived because our car wasn't ready until the following day.
The villa is beautiful, very clean and exceptionally well equipped. The garden bedrooms are fabulous with good air conditioning and the hot water was plentiful. Maureilhan itself does not have a lot to offer but we found ourselves very happy in the villa. There is a lot of outdoor and indoor space to relax and we used the pool for several hours each day. We also made good use of the bikes, cycling to neighbouring villages, vineyards and the canal.
Maison des Communes was a wonderful family villa and we would most definitely visit again if we return to the area. I would highly recommend it.

Thank you so much for your kind hospitality and beautiful villa. We have thouroughly enjoyed our week here. Everything is catered for, you have provided everything we need... and so much more !
We have spent 95% of our holiday by the pool, the outside area is so relaxing. Lots of wine and lots of chilling. The perfect break for us. Thank you !

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your amazing villa. We had such a great week here and you have made it special by going the extra mile. We had such a delicious meal at Le Pourquoi Pas, thank you.
The villa is beautiful and very relaxing. Thank you so much.

M. Powell
We had the most wonderful week at Maison des Communes. Philippe was charming and very helpful and informative in his welcome and what a lovely surprise to see a beautiful array of cheeses and wines awaiting us! The villa is extremely well furnished and supplied, a delight to relax in and very well situated for exploring the region and nipping down to the many beautiful beaches along the coast. The three different accommodation areas were absolutely perfect for our party of eight, allowing privacy and relaxation for everyone, although most time was spent round and in the lovely pool and letting the nights darken as we sat sipping the local wines in the various outside areas.
There is much to do and see in the area and the villa was a real haven to return to each day. What a great week: fabulous breakfast treats, elegant and artistic furnishings, glorious heat and sun in late August and the happiest of holidays. Merci beaucoup, Philippe!

Watson family
Our family of 7 adults (and a toddler) spent a blissful week here in August and we were all agreed that it was pretty well perfect for our family needs. We knew we were going to love it when Philippe showed us round then presented us with the welcome pack - by far the best we have ever received when renting a holiday home. His generosity throughout the week showed him to be an exceptional host in going the extra mile to make sure guests were happy and we very much appreciated this.
The layout of the villa, as other reviews have detailed, is particularly good for adult groups as there are three separate buildings housing the bedrooms (all beautifully decorated) thereby giving space to retreat if necessary. Bear in mind, if you are four couples, that the pool house room is very compact compared to the other three bedrooms.
We particularly loved the comfy outdoor furniture where we gathered in the evenings and the Moroccan seating area for peace and quiet. The pool is a good size and was used every day - of course - and the boys loved playing table tennis.
We love to cook and found that the kitchen was very spacious with two sinks and a huge cooker. It was also so useful having a separate fridge / freezer in the pool house annexe as you so often find that there is not enough fridge space in villas.
The barbecue area was just superb and used several times.
There is lots to explore close by and we did venture out for an afternoon on the canal du midi but we loved the villa so much we pretty much stayed put - it just had everything we needed.
The whole villa was clean, spacious and the furnishings were good quality. What an exceptional villa this is and thank you Philippe for being such a great host. We can't wait to go back.

Webster family
Having rented holiday homes in France for many years I am sure that the welcome from Philippe was the warmest we have ever had.
His kindness and generosity in providing a wonderful welcome pack comprising cheeses, bread, fruit, wine and a tart made our arrival very pleasant.
The house is beautifully appointed and every need seemed to have been considered.
The layout of the three buildings is particularly suited to large families with two large ensuite bedrooms in one block, a compact double in the pool house and a magnificent master suite in the main house.
The facilities are exceptional, with a comprehensively equipped kitchen, air conditioning in the key areas, a great variety of outdoor seating (very comfortable) in sun and shade, a fantastic outdoor kitchen with barbecue and a superb swimming pool, all set in beautiful gardens.
Philippe kindly brought croissants or pastries on the (very early) mornings he would silently clean the pool and another large selection of local goodies when changing the sheets after a week.
The location is quiet and peaceful yet there are lots of interesting places to visit within a short drive. Béziers and the villages along the Canal du Midi provide lots to do and the coast is only 20 minutes away.
This is an exceptional property which feels like a home rather than a rental and you could not fail to enjoy a holiday here.

I just wanted to say what a great time we had on our recent visit to Maison Des Communes, Philippe and Federica were wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome. The house in a tranquil location was perfect for a very relaxing get away from it all.

R Kiddle
We have been using Pure France regularly for many years and we have always stayed in fabulous Villas in great locations. However, we feel that Maison des Communes has just raised the bar for us in terms of the quality of the Villa with its many separate buildings and exotic furnishings. The pool was great and perfectly aligned to catch the Languedoc, Occitanie sunshine all day. And the welcome from the Owners really made us feel welcome and valued as a Customer. They even helped us carry our luggage in from the car! We were so impressed that less then 24 hours after arrival we have already booked for the next year. We cannot wait to return. 5 / 5

The villa was just as described and was perfect in every way. We chose the villa because everything was on one level and the pool and terrace area were located very close to the main house. We had the most wonderful time and the arrangement of the bedrooms meant we had plenty of space to relax in. The BBQ area was well used. The air conditioning was welcomed during the warm Mediterranean nights. It was also the first villa we have stayed in where we were able to walk to the local town in order to buy our daily croissants.
The service we had from Pure France and Philippe was exceptional. Thank-you.

Rupert
The villa was absolutely stunning and located in a quiet location as mentioned in the description (the only noise being crickets but that was soothing). The lay out of the house in 3 separate buildings really worked for our extended family group, additionally different areas in the garden in which you could sit enabled people to have some quiet time if needed. I would recommend the restaurants in the village, although be aware they don't open on a Monday. A very enjoyable and restful stay.

I just wanted to drop you an email to say how much we are enjoying our stay. The house is delightful, the pool gorgeous and the pretty gardens are totally secure for our dog who is currently snoozing under the old olive tree! Philippe is charming and totally respectful of our need for privacy. The house has exceeded our expectations and you fulfilled our brief perfectly. We are actually considering 2 weeks here again next year.
