Location
The château is located in open countryside (no neighbours!) midway between Bergerac (17 km) and Périgueux (25 km).
3 km to bakery and grocery store.
Supermarket in Vergt (10 minutes).
All amenities in Périgueux and Bergerac. Great shopping and huge choice of traditional café bars and restaurants. Périgueux is the very elegant Renaissance capital of Périgord. Bergerac was once a flourishing port for the wine trade. It still today has a picturesque harbour where you can take a boat trip along the river Dordogne, or a miniature train ride around the ancient town, viewing the many half timbered houses with terracotta decoration.
Thanks to the central location of the property, the best-known cultural, (pre)historic and natural sites of the region of the Dordogne are all easily accessible.
Close to Vergt, the Napoleon Museum at the Château de la Pommerie opens its private collection of souvenirs of the Imperial Family. Over five hundred objects, paintings and sculptures of which 150 are listed with the Historical Monuments, are shown by a direct descendant of the Bonaparte family in their 18th century castle.
The castle of Beynac (45 minutes) is one of the most famous in France and was used by many historic film makers. On the other bank of the Dordogne River, it is faced by the Château Castelnaud, which is great for the kids; it still has great canon ball holes in the side walls from an attack. Open all day every day in July / August.
Sarlat-la-Canéda is really worth a visit. In the heart of the Périgord Noir, Sarlat-la-Canéda grew up around a Benedictine abbey founded in the 9th century. It has a distinct medieval feel about it, with numerous magnificent buildings around every corner you turn. The town's Saturday market is also a main feature with its truffles, foie gras and mushrooms (depending on the season).
Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil is an archaeologist's paradise with many caves containing prehistoric paintings and deposits.
Lascaux the famous cave was only discovered in 1940, by four young boys whose dog had fallen down a hole. The cave is made up of four galleries, the walls of which are covered with more than 1500 representations, either engraved or painted. Lascaux II is a replica of two of the galleries. The artist Monique Peytral used the same methods and materials as the cave artists so the atmosphere of the original cave has been made possible.

We did indeed have a fantastic time all 13 of us, a great place for a large family with small children, the owner was charming and all went well.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. It is full of character and style. The scent of flowers and wonderful pool made the garden the place we spent the most time. Many thanks to you for being so hospitable and responsive. We took your advice for many of our day trips. We wish you every success in the future.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday in your beautiful château. Every moment has been enjoyable and I am full of admiration for the way you have lovingly restored the house over 15 years, the atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. It has certainly been a holiday to remember, in such a lovely setting and area of France.

We had the most amazing stay at Château Périgord. Twelve friends of 38 years celebrated two 65th birthday, one 60th birthday, two retirements and one 21st birthday. We couldn't think of a better place to celebrate. The house is magnificent and catered for all our needs. The owners have been amazing, thank you for all your recommendations. We will miss this place terribly, but what amazing memories we have, thank you!
Wiliams Family - UK
We had a lovely holiday at Château Perigord and are now sadly back in the UK.
The Van der Meer family
We are a family from 3 to 78 and thoroughly enjoyed staying at Château Périgord this week. We were fascinated by how beautifully it's renovated and decorated. All couples within our family had a nice room to stay in and the beds were good. The flowering garden, with fragrant lavender and refreshing swimming pool were a real joy. The kids played jeux de boules on the gravel, football on the perfectly trimmed lawn and spent many hours in the pool.
We preferred cooking our own meals in the large Médiéval style kitchen (as we all like cooking) and had dinner at a long table at the courtyard. Château Périgord has so many places to sit and to enjoy the atmosphere and beautiful features and games to play that there was no need to do many trips elsewhere. We cycled in the area and did some jogging up the hills followed by cooling down in the pool. Thank you for a fantastic and relaxing stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Périgord Castle. The castle is beautiful and tastefully decorated. The park is splendid. The countryside is very beautiful and very soothing. The pool is secured and well equipped. Perfect.
Deb and Dey - USA
The château has been a fabulous place to stay - a unique combination of grandeur and homely comfort. The facilities are superb and typically rural French. The owner received us graciously into her home with a warm welcome. Jean-Marie was a marvel - really helpful and quick to respond to any requests we had. The local area has so much history all around yet there is something for everyone. Châteaux galore everywhere. Would definitely recommend canoeing the Dordogne - if you can manage the trek to canoe past Castelnaud that would be an amazing trip - we set off from St Cyprien which was great too, but the views past Castelnaud would be amazing.
We have been lucky with the weather so the children (and adults) have had lots of fun by the pool. Thank you for your hospitality.
Suzanne and Gazzolo / Griffin Family
Thank you for opening your extraordinary home to our extended family. Our holiday at Château Périgord surpassed all expectations. The beauty of the area and of your home are perfect compliments. We enjoyed shopping the local markets and cooking together in the inviting kitchen. We loved our time spent in the pool and playing badminton, as well as the time simply enjoying our pleasant surroundings and views. We explored prehistoric caves and Médiéval villages, we tasted wines of the region, visited famous châteaux, took canoes down the Dordogne river and always ended the day eager to return and enjoy Château Périgord.
Dudley family, UK
Just to say that we have enjoyed our time here enormously. You have the most beautiful home in a wonderful location! We only left the house twice other than to shop for food. Once to go to Château Bridoire (a good recommendation thank you) and Château Montbazillac and a second time today to go to an aqua parc. Thank you very much!
R Frank
We had such a wonderful time at Château Périgord and Jean-Marie made our time there even more enjoyable. I do hope we can return one day as a family and hopefully with slightly warmer weather! Many thanks again for such a wonderful stay at your beautiful home.
We loved sharing your beautiful château for our special holiday and found it very relaxing and an ideal place for us all to have our own space. The local area was stunning with easy access to Vergt for supplies and easy access for sightseeing.
