Port of the moon in Bordeaux

Since the Middle Ages, the port of the Moon has been the name given to the port of Bordeaux due to its crescent shape as it crosses the city. It is also represented on the coat of arms of the city. This part of the river which is also called "the harbour" which today has a strong tourist activity.

Villefranche-sur-Mer and The Rolling Stones

Villefranche-sur-Mer is undoubtedly the prettiest and most charming of the smaller towns on the Cote dAzur. Falling from the hills to the seafront and its beautiful bay, Villefranche sits comfortably between Monaco and the Italian border. Like Cannes in the late 19th century and early 20th century, Villefranche was a poular winter destination for royalty and wealthy visitors. And then, in April 1971, the wealthy rock and roll royalty arrived - The Rolling Stones.

La Grande Roue

La Grande Roue (The Big Wheel) of Paris was unveiled at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. It was the tallest wheel in the world at its opening. The passenger pods were so large that they were removed from the wheel and used as homes for French families during The First World War. Since 1900, the Grand Roue has become a spectacular site at Fetes Foraines throughout the summer in France.

Fontenay Abbey

The Abbey of Fontenay is located in the north of Burgundy, founded in 1118 by Saint Bernard de Clairvaux, one of the greatest French saints, it is today the oldest preserved Cistercian abbey in the world. It is listed among the 45 UNESCO World Heritage sites in France.

Le Suquet

Thomas Pesquet, the astronaut who makes us dream

Thomas Pesquet, the astronaut who makes us dream, has returned to space for a 6-month mission. Thomas Pesquet, our astronaut at heart Thomas Pesquet was born in 1978. He is the 10th French to conquer space and the 2nd to make a long stay. First in 2016, for the Proxima mission. He left on board the Soyuz MS-03 from the Baikonur launch base in Kasakhstan and joined the International Space Station (ISS).

Minerve

Officially 'one of the most beautiful villages in France', the unspoilt medieval village of Minerve is definitely one to add to your list of days out if you are on holiday in the Hérault region. Lascaux cave near Montignac

Lascaux cave, discovered in September 1940 by 4 teenagers who descended into the prehistoric cave, discovered cave paintings made by Paleolithic man, more than 17,000 years ago. Today visitors can visit a replica of the Lascaux cave, Lascaux 4, which opened to the public in December 2016.
