Location

The property is located in a residential area, 5 minutes walk to the centre of the village of Montauroux.

Montauroux is situated 30 minutes inland from the Mediterranean coast, 30 minutes to Cannes and Grasse. Easy access (10 minutes) from the A8 motorway.

Nice airport 40 km (less than 1 hour's drive from luggage reclaim to the front door). Flights from BA, Air France, Easy Jet, BmiBaby and Ryanair. New flight-route Stansted to Toulon (75 minutes drive to the front door).

The village of Montauroux and its neighbour, Callian are extremely picturesque, hilltop villages with all amenities including café bars and restaurants.

A large supermarket lies less than 5 minutes from the property. Superb local Farmer's Market every week. Street market in Montauroux every Tuesday.

Golf;
There are over 30 courses within an hour's drive of the house, but you can find an outstanding 36 holes at The Four Seasons Terre Blanche resort, 5 minutes across the valley.

Biking;
There are numerous marked cycling paths in the area, but don't forget the many off road tracks through the forests as well.

Gliding;
Nearby Fayence is a European centre for gliding and you can experience the beauty of Provence from the air with a half hour 'sightseeing' tour.

Spas;
The Domaine de Fayence and the Four Seasons Resort have excellent spa facilities which are open to non residents.

Horse riding;
The local horse riding centre is only 5 minutes away and is available for lessons and trekking.

Sailing, kayaking and water sports;
Kids will love the pedalos at Lac de Saint-Cassien just 10 minutes away, but you also have the choice of sea water sports centres at Saint-Raphaël or Fréjus; kayaking on the pristine lakes of the Gorges du Verdon, or the beaches of the Côte d'Azur.

For the kids;
If they get tired of all the other activities, Marineland in Antibes, and the zoo in Fréjus are always popular.

Gorges du Verdon and Lac de Sainte-Croix for breathtaking scenery.

Grasse is also the 'perfume capital of the world' and lies 30 minutes from the house. Spectacular old village with winding streets and stunning views. Excellent restaurants and cafés. Endless opportunities to sample and purchase perfume, as well as visits to the manufacturers to see the rose petals being transformed into scent. Make your own perfume too.

Visit Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, the preferred hang-outs for many celebrities. Amazing night-life with many clubs, bars and restaurants.

Nearby Saint-Tropez is perhaps the most beach resort in the world after Brigitte Bardot arrived in 1956 to make the film 'Et Dieu Créa la Femme'. Since then, Saint-Tropez has become synonymous with its celebrity lifestyle and Mediterranean chicness. It certainly is an appealing place; a little fishing village on the Southern shores of the Golfe de Saint-Tropez. The 'Vieux Port', with the old town rising above the Eastern quay is where you'll get the classic Saint-Tropez experience. Choose from many sidewalk cafés to just sit and watch people go by.

The village has a huge choice of shops, cafés, restaurants, picturesque squares, winding streets and beautiful architecture to admire. Lively night-life clubs and cultural events. Several beaches to choose from.

Just outside Saint-Tropez is Port-Grimaud, a charming Provençal town built in the 1960's and based on the layout of Venice; brightly coloured houses stand (and float) on private lagoons and waterways. It is a truly spectacular sight. Perfect for a gentle stroll to admire the architecture and the boats. Lots of cafés and brasserie restaurants. Boat trips leave here for a tour around the bay.

Facing Saint-Tropez across the gulf is Sainte-Maxime, a pretty and traditional Riviera town with long promenade and palm trees. Delightful stretches of Mediterranean beaches with all water sports. No better way to spend an evening than to choose one of the restaurants or bars on the waterside and just watch the boats and the lights out on the bay.

Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël are similar to Sainte-Maxime and offer further shops, markets and restaurants. Fréjus has a Roman amphitheatre and hosts many summer concerts.

Reviews

« We came looking for relaxation and French charm - and found lots of it in this fantastic villa.
The views are magnificent - everyday drinks at 18.00 (rosé is a fine choice) we found the sunset to be so spectacular in the hours from 18 - 20 that you really don't need any other entertainment.
The pool is great - and big enough, so you can actually swim in it.
Location is perfect - very quiet and private.
Shopping at Leclerc easy to reach.
Excursions to the coast (Cannes, Antibes, Fréjus, St Tropez as well as visits to neighbouring villages are easily reached. Take your time to stroll around Callian, Grasse...).
From Callian castle walls you can see the villa in Montauroux.
Truly a great place.
Thank you for your great hospitality. »  Seren, Sanne, Christina, Stefan, Simon and Caroline

« Have had a marvellous 2 weeks in this fine villa.
Weather has been very good.
Good walks around the lake and to Pont des Tuves - the less fit of the party struggled on the latter but it was good fun and the bridge itself was certainly worth seeing.
Good visits to Cannes, Antibes and Grasse (we had been to the perfume museum before and didn't realise there was so much more to be seen in Grasse).
The hillside villages such as Mons and St Cézaire were very different from the popular coastal towns but just as interesting and enjoyable.
Good food at La Marina and also several of the restaurants around the lake - but not open in the evening.
We enjoyed all the excellent facilities at their villa.
Sad to be returning for many reasons. »  John, Margaret, Lucy & Sian

« A beautiful and really well-equipped property. We had a great week here. Anabella particularly enjoyed the pool and inflatables! We will miss the sweet view from the terrace! Thank you. »  The Carey family and the "in-laws" (Whitney and Blackpool, UK)

« Wish we had another two weeks here, and would come again to this house.
After 14 years of French holiday villas, this one is the best!! Thank you. »  Colin & Erica (Gloucestershire), Emma & Jan (Dorset)

« We've had a wonderful week here at Villa du Var. We don't want to go home!
The villa has been perfect for us and our 2 year-old son. Lots of fun in the swimming-pool!
We have found it to be a good base to explore the area and have enjoyed lots of days out.
Recommend the beaches at Fréjus and Théoule sur Mer, both lovely.
Marina restaurant in the village is lovely, would recommend reserving a table as it gets very busy.
Best boulangerie is down the steep hill, right and right again.
Enjoy your holiday as much as we have! »  Fiona, Matt and Joshua

« We had a lovely stay here for the final week of our holiday. The pool was definitely a big plus to have during the 35° weather! We found the house very well equipped and had lots of comfortable outdoor seating for our family. We are definitely going to miss the views from the upstairs windows/balcony! Our favorite trips were to Grasse with a tour of the perfume museum/factory, St Tropez - love all those big yatchs plus the mussels and frites at the Paris Club, but our favorite day was our drive to Mas for lunch in the cliffside auberge, followed by a visit to the Château des Selves winery, South of Seillans (the tourist information office has a map of local wineries, olive and produces...). Note the road to Mas is steep and very narrow but wonderful authentic French village. Ruins of the Roman aqueduc can still be seen.
Le Marina restaurant was worth two visits for us. Wonderful, fresh food and friendly staff.
Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did! »  Winkler and Buncher families

« Had a lovely holiday in this very comfortable villa with fantastic views and amazing sunsets. The heated pool is great although it has been sunny all week.
Great Danish radio channel on the TV playing a mixture of pop music much better than ones in the UK.
For the best boulangerie - go to the bottom of the hill and turn right, then go round the corner on Callian road. Lady is very friendly and croissants & bread delicious - our favorite was the Tradition.
We visited Callian, tourrettes and Fayence - all pretty and don't take long to walk around. The road between Tourrettes and Fayence is very narrow if you are driving a big car or people carrier.
We found a lovely sandy beach on the west side of Théoule sur Mer - Pointe de l'Aiguille. You can park at the top of the hill then walk down the steps & path - if you take the left path on the way down it goes to the sandy beach, the right path goes to 2 story, but pretty coves. Snorkelling was great as there are lots of fish and it gets deep quite quickly.
Grasse is worth a visit and you can pick up a map with a walking route from the tourist information. There is a free tour in the Musee Fragonard which was interesting.
The Gorge walk to the Pont de Tuvés is worth it but it is steep and requires trainers or walking shoes. There are two routes.
Hope you have as lovely holiday as we had and enjoy the beautiful countryside and views. »  Carole, David, Sarah, Matt, Louise and Will.

« We have all had a wonderful, relaxing holiday here at the Villa Var. Beautiful panoramic views, everything we could possibly need at the villa. A visit to Grasse is a must do!
We now must return to "Bonnie Scotland"... parting is such sweet sorrow! »  Diana, Jan, Chris and Willy

« A fortnight has passed quickly!
We agree with the previous guests. Just to add a couple of things.
Les 3 garçons is a very nice and easygoing restaurant if you want to visit Grasse "the perfume city" (well worth driving there).
Remember to have the wooden 'lits' closed on windows and doors as much as possible during the day so that the house stays a little cooler.
We had fun, we had sun, we had seasons in the sun... »  Anne, Risto, Roosa, Aino, Peter, Peppi-Lotta :)

« We've had a fantastic holiday in a really beautiful house. The pool was great - the kids loved it and the views from the house and gardens are absolutely beautiful.
The location is perfect - a really great place to explore from - all the main trains/cities and easy reach of some stunning beaches at Théoule sur Mer.
We are already hoping we can come back for even longer next summer!
Thank you for all your help and being such welcoming and friendly hosts. »  Steve, Gemme, Henry and Matilda (UK)

« Lovely house, great facilities and brilliant pool. Thank you for making us welcome and giving us helpful advice about the area.
The children loved the pool and it was lovely and warm (warmer than outside most days).
The location has been a good place to explore the region, with Montauroux and Callian, good for bakers and shops. Easy reach for Cannes, shopping and Frejus/St Raphael beaches.
The house has been comfortable and the English TV channels have been good to have. Thank you. »  The James family (Newcastle, England).

« Lovely house, gorgeous pool (those few extra degrees make all the difference), views to die for and friendly helpful owners...plus a great location for exploring all the regions greatest hits. »

« Have had a fantastic time in this beautiful villa. Views are amazing, pool very refreshing and Bang & Olufsen televisions awesome! Villa is in a great location to explore Provence but also not too far from the coast, particular favourite is Theoule-sur-mer which has beautiful beaches and is around the bay from Cannes. »
