Location

The property is located in the heart of the village of Argeliers, amongst the Languedoc vineyards between Béziers and Carcassonne.
Easy walking distance to; café bar, pharmacy, 'Spar' mini-mart, newsagent, 2 bakeries, 2 butchers, post office, restaurant, second restaurant (2 km), tennis courts and local produce shop.

Capestang (5 minutes) with lovely canal-side restaurants, shops and further café bar restaurants.

Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan (40 minutes) for great Mediterranean beaches, traditional markets, café bar restaurants, water park and amusement parks.

The nearby, beautiful Canal du Midi is a great respite from the busy beaches. Made famous by Rick Stein's BBC TV series, the canal offers miles of flat, tree-lined, shady footpaths with many waterside bars and restaurants.

Narbonne has an interesting gothic cathedral, medieval quarter and Roman remains, some good restaurants and a peaceful past, reflected in a serene town centre.

Carcassonne 45 minutes the most romantic medieval skyline anywhere and has great summer medieval festivals and spectacular evening firework displays.

Corbières, where interesting and serious wine makers are now well-established and you can stop at towns like Lagrasse, a really gorgeous place in the fold of a hill, unspoilt, medieval and facing a Benedictine monastery across a river. Everyone swims in a little lagoon looking up at the twelfth century bridge.

Cisterian Abbaye de Fontfroide with lovely rose garden and a good restaurant.

The kayaking is wonderful in the Montagne Noire, pretty Victorian spa towns have wide and slow stretches of the Orb where tinies can bob about, and fast exciting stretches for the others.

For serious 'white water' enthusiasts, there are good rivers in the Pyrénées, also about an hour away. Similarly, Figueires, the Dali Museum and Barcelona are all not far to the South.

Each beach along the coast has a different flavour to it.

Budget airlines fly into Montpellier (1 hour), Perpignan (1 hour), Carcassonne (40 minutes), Nîmes and Toulouse (90 minutes) and Barcelona (3 hours).

Hypermarkets and excellent shopping in both Béziers and Narbonne. Cultural events and traditional markets.

Historic Cathar trail with many castles to visit.

The Spanish border lies just 55 minutes away.

Reviews

« Just back at work after two weeks at Maison Tigre, and wanted to thank you for sharing your home with us – we had a fantastic time.  We have been staying in France and Italy over the last ten years – varying our choice between rural isolation (for space and privacy) and village houses (for the boulangeries and cafes, etc.), and I have to say that your home provides the perfect combination in a part of France where there is so much to do and see.  I also really like the house itself – the great care that has gone into the development, finishing and furnishings is evident (and I like the modernist/minimalist style you have employed).
All in all a brilliant holiday.  »  P

« We had an absolutely delightful holiday in Argeliers, and all six of us (four adults and two children) loved the house and hated to leave.
We did the usual visits for first-timers in the region: Carcassonne, Narbonne, Gruissan, the Abbaye de Fontfroide, various villages along the Canal du Midi, etc. We had a ball and were always looking forward to return to the Maison Tigre at the end of the day. The pool was a high-light, so much so that it was sometimes difficult to get the children out to visit (and the adults also). The house was also a delight, with such a great design that we immediately felt at home. Thank you also to Alan and Cathy for their warm welcome and very useful explanations.
All six of us have very good memories of our (alas short) stay at Maison Tigre, and we still remind each other often of our summer holiday.
I would like to congratulate you again for the wonderful job you have done with the restoration of Maison Tigre, with the design and with the equipment provided, which was just right for us (I may be repeating myself here, but it really is a wonderful home, so another round of applause is not excessive!) »  D

« I just wanted to drop you a line to say how very much we enjoyed our week in your lovely home - it truly is superb!
In fact, we all had such a good week, I am about to email in order to book for next year. I notice on the website that next year's dates are already there so we thought we'd better book quickly (and before you decide that it is far too beautiful to leave!) »  J

« We just wanted to tell you that we really enjoyed the stay in your wonderful house. You have thought of everything to make it so nice and our daughter said that she had come to paradise...
All the people that we met; Alan and Cathy, the pool and garden guys and the cleaning ladies were all so nice and helpful. Real assets!
And the Rosé in the fridge... This was a very welcome gesture that we enjoyed after the long drive down.
Thank you again for sharing your lovely house with us. »  A & M

« Many thanks, we look forward to booking with you again next year! »  Moriarty family - London, UK
