Location

The property is located in open countryside close to the small hamlet of Payrignac, between Gourdon and Sarlat-la-Canéda.

Easy 10 minutes walk to Payrignac with restaurant and lake.

Gourdon, 5 minutes with all shops including supermarket and restaurants.

Further shops, supermarket and many more restaurants / café bars etc in Sarlat-la-Canéda, 20 minutes. Sarlat-la-Canéda is a very popular tourist destination; a charming and busy traditional village with all amenities which is the capital of Perigord Noir. Lots of 15th and 16th century houses make this a very picturesque place and there are many good restaurants and cafés to discover. Excellent market on Saturday.

Don't miss a trip to La Roque-Gageac, a stunningly beautiful village under the towering cliffs. The village regularly wins France's 'Prettiest Village' competition. Good canoeing centre here.

Competing with La Roque-Gageac in the prettiness stakes is the village of Carennac. Elevated just above the South bank of the river, it is best known for its typical Quercy architecture and Romanesque priory. Further Romanesque art at the Saint-Pierre church in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne.

Perhaps the most famous of the Dordogne tourist attractions are the cave paintings around Les Eyzies. There are more pre-historic caves in this area than you could ever visit in a day! Les Eyzies lies at the heart of an unspoilt area of great natural beauty with rolling hills, tranquil rivers and fascinating cliff and rock formations.

It has some of the world's most beautiful caves with outstanding stalactite and stalagmite crystallizations. And the cave-lined Vézère valley has been classified as a heritage site by UNESCO. The most well-known of all is the cave at Lascaux which was discovered in 1940. The paintings date back some 17,000 years.

Reviews

« Tony and Gill made us feel genuinely welcome to their beautiful and immaculate home from the very first minute after our arrival. Les Encabanes is in the most tranquil of settings in it's superbly kept surrounding grounds. It is light and airy and has everything (and more) that you could possibly need. We felt so relaxed and at home with the superb pool providing welcome relief from some of the hottest weather we have ever experienced in France that for the first two days we went nowhere until we needed some food shopping ( good supermarkets 10 mins away in Gourdon).

Then once you do get out and about the surrounding area is a delight, there are too many places to mention but Sarlat, Domme, Beynac and La Roque Gageac are must visits. A little further afield is St.Cirque la Popie which although touristy is well worth a trip.
As veterans of many French holiday villas in all areas of France Les Encabanes easily comes out on the top of the list. It is a credit to you Tony & Gill, thank you very much and we very much hope to return. »  Durham family

« We had a REALLY lovely holiday at Encabanes. »  Rosenthal family

« Spent a delightful week at Les Encabanes - just wish it could have been two! The house is immaculate, spacious, and with everything you could need for a very comfortable holiday. The photos don't do it justice, and the setting is superb. On a very quiet rural lane with lovely views of the large grounds from the terrace. The pool is a good size and heated. The delightful English owners are extremely accommodating and were staying nearby should we have needed them. The town of Gourdon (5 minutes drive) is very attractive and has a great selection of restaurants and supermarkets as well as smaller shops. The house is ideally placed to explore this beautiful region and there are many activities on offer for all ages. We will certainly return! »  Tomlinson family

« Had a great week staying here with our 2 teenage sons, had great fun in the pool which was good as the weather was very hot. We enjoyed canoeing on the river. The Caves a trip to Rocamadour, Sarlat, Brive there was so much to do as a family. The house had everything we could have possibly wanted it was beautiful, we loved it.Thankyou Tony and Gill for letting us stay in your house, we will certainly be recomending you to our friends and anybody else we know, we had not been to France before but will for sure be coming back to your house again. »  The Fripp family

« This is our 4th visit to the area, always plenty to do, great for the children, house and pool perfect and Tony and Gill the prefect hosts. This is a super family holiday and we will be back again in the future. »  M, K , I & E

« We've had a week of excellent weather. It's our first visit to the area and to Les Encabanes, but we certainly plan to return as we ran out of time to visit all the sites. »  M, H, P, E, W

« Totally relaxing holiday in very pleasant surroundings. Going home ready to face the world. House and garden with pool just what the doctor ordered. »  Sally & family

« We have had a lovely holiday in this beautiful area of France so glad we came, the house and pool are perfect for a truly stress free time. The weather has been hot and the local attractions are in abundance. Tony and Gill have been most helpful in every way. »

« This is a true home from home holiday house, beautifully kept garden and interior with everything you could possibly need at your disposal, including inflatable toys/beds for the pool, perfect for families and couples alike. The owners are 2 of the nicest people we have met and are very welcoming, the small hamlet has surrounding properties, none of which impose on your privacy. The vast garden is a child's dream, with pool, treehouse and swing, our 3 year old had a ball. Ideal location to visit Sarlat and Gourdon. We could not have wished for anything more and would not hesitate to return time and time again. Thank you to Tony and Gill for making our stay so wonderful. »  Sundin family - North Shields, UK
